O meteorito Hammadah al Hamra 280 (HAH 280) foi encontrada no ano de 2000, em Jabal al Gharb na região de Hamra Hammadah al na Líbia. 280 é o número de meteoritos catalogado encontrados nesta área.

Como carbonosos chamado condrito o HAH 280 é classificada no grupo CK4 muito raro. A análise científica confirma que é cerca de 700 milhões anos mais velho que o nosso sistema solar que possui 4,5 bilhões de anos!!

O meteorito de 280 HAH é originario do chamado cinturão de asteróides. Hoje é geralmente aceito que este cinto surgiu de uma nebulosa solar primaria. Pesquisas têm demonstrado que em CK4 meteoritos existem até 220 aminoácidos. Estes fornecem a base para as proteínas, os componentes das células. Por conseguinte, apresenta-se especulações de que possivelmente meteoritos tais como o HAH 280 poderiam ter trazido a base da vida na Terra.
