Em 2014 completam-se 100 anos desde a emissão da primeira moeda comemorativa da República, um marco histórico que faz parte da génese da INCM e que é assinalado com a emissão da primeira moeda bimetálica excêntrica do mundo.
Esta moeda, desenhada por Nuno Caetano, possui características técnicas e visuais únicas, onde um disco de ouro é encravado no bordo de um disco de maiores dimensões em prata graças a um processo inovador de cunhagem. Devido à especificidade do encaixe dos dois discos, o mais pequeno ultrapassa o limite definido pelo perímetro circular do maior resultando numa moeda não circular.
No anverso e na zona da prata está reproduzida a face da moeda emitida em 1914, a primeira a ter o valor facial de 1 escudo, reproduzindo -se na zona do ouro o anverso da última moeda comemorativa de escudo (1 escudo em ouro), resultando numa face com duas imagens.
No reverso surge o antigo edifício da Casa da Moeda, onde foi cunhada a moeda de 1914, e um pormenor da entrada da atual Casa da Moeda, onde foi cunhada a moeda de 2001, tendo à sua direita o valor facial de 2,50 Euro. Na parte de ouro visível no reverso encontra -se a legenda «1914 -2014».
